Collateral for commodities

Upstox does not provide margin pledge for commodities trading (only cash collateral is accepted for commodities trading). This is a serious drawback. Other brokers provide this feature. Is Upstox planning anything in this regard, if yes, what is the expected date?

Yes, this feature is in the pipeline and will roll out in August. Stay tuned for updates!

Single wallet was recently rolled out after a long wait, it was announced in Mar’25. Without providing the collateral limit for commodities , single wallet feature has no meaning!

Hi @Ushnota, timeline mentioned by you is about to end, when is this feature rolling out?

Hi @Parag_Paunikar,

It will be available around the timeline mentioned before, rest assured. Thanks for your interest and patience.

Hi @Ushnota The feature is not live yet. What is the revised ETA?

Hi @Parag_Paunikar,

The feature is going to be released in a phased manner and all Upstox users would be able to use collateral margin for commodities within the next 2 weeks.

@Ushnota , Is this feature available now?

@Arunachalam_Sakthive - Yes, it’s already live.

Hello Ushnota,

Recently, I started using Liquid ETF collateral for commodities trading. However, Upstox does not treat Liquid ETFs as direct (liquid-backed) collateral, due to which my entire cash balance is being used instead.

Despite multiple follow-ups with the support team, I have not been able to get clear or correct information. Could you please confirm whether commodities collateral works in the same way as Index F&O collateral, where Liquid ETFs are treated as cash-backed collateral? If this feature is not yet supported, please share the expected timeline for its availability.

Thanks and Regards,

Arun

Hi @Arunachalam_Sakthive,

All the stocks, ETF, MFs that are eligible for pledging are listed here:

You can use the Cash Equivalent filter here to filter ETFs which are treated as cash. If you use the margin received from these ETFs, it will be treated like cash and interest will not be charged.

Also, in the reports section, you can check how much interest you are charged and how much cash equivalent was available to you that day. Check this: Upstox Accounts

@Ushnota any update on nri accounts?

Thank you so much for providing such clear, well-explained steps.
