MTF Stocks List

Is it possible to download the list of MTF stocks into a CSV file or Excel file?

@Indian_Trader_007 The CSV file is not available at the moment; however, you can download the MTF instrument JSON file

Hi

@ Anand_Sajankar

Thanks for the response.

How do I use this Json File to get the list of MTF stocks?

Which application should I use to open this ‘JSON’ file?

If I open this Json file with MS Word then it displays pages with only complex computer coded language.

Sorry to ask but I am not from IT background so have limited knowledge regarding such technical topics like using ‘JSON’ file types.

Hi @Indian_Trader_007,

There is no user facing Excel at the moment. MTF stocks list is available in Pro Web and Mobile.

For Mobile → you can find it in MTF stocks watchlist
For Pro Web → you can find it in the Discover section

Is it possible for the backend team to make it available as a downloadable file in Excel or CSV format through the Pro Web or may be from the Upstox website?

@Indian_Trader_007 It’s available for download at the following link: https://assets.upstox.com/market-quote/instruments/exchange/MTF.json.gz

Sorry but the above link downloads only a json file.

Not the Excel or CSV file

I require a CSV or Excel file please if possible.

@Indian_Trader_007 - This is in the pipeline. However, we don’t have a date set for it yet. Will keep you posted once it rolls out, thanks.

Ok

No issues.

Just a feedback..

As you know most of the traders plan their trades by analyzing the charts of any symbol.

Even if there is an option in front of each MTF symbol to open its chart directly from the MTF Smartlist, currently since the MTF list is given in a separate tab called ‘MTF Smartlist’ under ‘Discover’ section, we need to switch or keep juggling between the charts and the MTF tab inside the Discover section when we want to go to the next MTF symbol after analyzing the chart, which becomes slightly time consuming, boring and inconvenient.

Hence, it’s a simple request that instead of giving this MTF list inside the Discover section if it can be made available in the watchlist panel as a default ready-made watchlist just adjacent to the chart section then it will be more convenient to scroll through the MTF symbols and simultaneously check their charts instantly without switching over to any other tab or section. This will be much more convenient and save a lot of time also.

If this is not possible then at least make it available to export as a downloadable file in a CSV or Excel file format so that we can create our own customized watchlists with MTF symbols more easily.

Hope this explains my expectations and requirements.

I hope it gets implemented sooner.

Thanks

Hi @Indian_Trader_007,

There’s an option in the Upstox app to subscribe/follow the MTF watchlist. Here’s how you can do it:

Login → My Lists → Click on the Watchlist dropdown (top left)

You’ll see the option to follow MTF stocks right there. Alternatively, you can go to Discover more lists and follow it from there. Once subscribed, all MTF stocks will be available to you as a dedicated watchlist with quick access to charts. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot.

I did not know this feature about MTF list that it can be made available in the watchlist panel also.

:+1:

In fact, I could also get an option to download it in Excel sheet from the watchlist panel. However, I could not download the complete list in one click. It will require 27 repetitions to download the complete list as it is divided into 27 pages.

Anyways, with this feature my primary purpose and requirement is fulfilled so I may not require to download the whole list very often. But the backend team may enable it to download the whole list in one click if it is possible at their own discretion.

Thanks again @ Ushnota

I assume that after we subscribe to the list and add it to the watchlist panel this list gets auto updated in our watchlist panel also, as and when there are any additions or deletions of any stocks.

Just noticed one glitch about the MTF list in the watchlist panel.

After we subscribe to the MTF list and get it into our watchlist panel, the alphabetical sorting option does not remain saved for the MTF watchlist.

After we log out of the application, the sorting option gets deactivated and the list reverts back to the default sequence.

Request to the Upstox team to please rectify the glitch if possible to avoid this small inconvenience.

Thanks

Sure, @Indian_Trader_007. We will take it as a suggestion. Thank you.

Feedback about Subscribing the MTF List:

This is really a nice feature in the Upstox App by which we can have many more ready-made watchlists available inside our watchlist panel.

It can be very helpful to have such long lists of symbols in the watchlist panel as our ready-made dynamically updating watchlists. This is especially convenient for such watchlists as MTF list, F n O Stocks list, Futures contracts list etc. As these lists keep getting updated periodically very often.

Some derivatives contracts (Futures & Options) get added or removed periodically like every couple of months. Some stocks get added or removed from the MTF list more frequently, perhaps every couple of days.

So, I imagine perhaps by having such ready-made dynamically updating watchlists in our watchlist panel just by subscribing to these ready-made lists will significantly reduce our hassles and pain of manually creating and regularly updating such long watchlists in our watchlist panel.

Unfortunately, I could not use this option in the app to subscribe to any other list as per my requirement apart from MTF List.

May I request the Upstox team, to make available more such ready-made lists which can be included in our watchlist panel by subscribing through the app?

Especially the lists such as

  1. A list of all the Futures contracts from NSE displaying Continuous Futures contracts in the charts for Front month and Next month.

  2. F & O Stocks list from NSE.

  3. Many of the Indices constituent lists like Nifty 50, Nifty Next 50, Nifty 200, Nifty 500, BankNifty, FinNifty, Nifty IT etc. and many more such sectoral or thematic lists.

  4. A list of commodity futures contracts from MCX displaying continuous contract charts.

Another advantage of this feature is by making the users to subscribe to such watchlists, the users will be able to add only those watchlists in their watchlist panel as per their individual preferences. This will reduce the clutter of predefined ready-made watchlists from the watchlist panel, and the users can have only those lists available as per their individual requirements.

If this feature of subscribing or adding the pre-defined watchlists to our watchlist panel can be activated in the web trader as well then, the users need not go to the mobile app for subscribing to such watchlists.

As far as watchlist is concerned, I really would like to mention here and appreciate what Zerodha has achieved in their platform for their users.

They have created this beautiful pop-up window with ‘Create and Manage Watchlist’ option which itself is divided into two sections displaying the ‘User created Lists’ under ‘My Lists’ tab and the ‘Predefined Watchlists’ created by the backend team separately under ‘Discover’ tab.

The users are able to add only those predefined watchlists from the Discover section which they want as per individual requirements. This helps to reduce the clutter in the User Created watchlists section (My Lists) and still we have a long list of predefined watchlists separately available in the ‘Discover Tab’ from which we can add or remove any list to our Custom watchlists section.

Also, these long pre-defined watchlists keep getting updated automatically whenever there are any changes from the exchange side.

They also have a few more features worth mentioning.

  1. They have a capacity of 250 symbols for their custom watchlists so we can accommodate all the F n O stocks or all the Futures contracts for the front or next month in a single watchlist.

  2. They have also enabled Internal Grouping in the watchlist.

Can we expect from the Upstox team, to enable something similar kind of experience for the watchlist panel in Upstox platform as well?

If Upstox team can manage to incorporate these features in their platform it will add even more value to the platform Pro.Upstox and also increase lots of convenience for its users.

Thanks

Hi @Indian_Trader_007,

There are already lot of ‘Watchlists’ which you can follow in the ‘Discover more’ lists. Having said that, we have noted down your suggestions. Thanks for your feedback.
