Announcing a Game-Changer for Futures Traders: Continuous Contracts Now Available!

Hey folks! :waving_hand:

We’re thrilled to unveil a significant enhancement to our TV platform that will revolutionize how you trade futures: Introducing Seamless Continuous Futures Contracts!

For too long, futures traders have faced the recurring inconvenience of expiring contracts. The constant need to remove an expired contract from your watchlist, search for and add the new, active one, and then painstakingly re-draw all your indicators, trendlines, and analysis has been a real pain point.

Our new Continuous Futures Contracts eliminate this repetitive and time-consuming process entirely. Now, when you add a continuous contract to your watchlist, you can set it and forget it. As one contract expires, the system automatically rolls over to the next active contract in the series, ensuring your charts and analysis remain uninterrupted.

Here’s a GPT summarization of how this helps!

  • Uninterrupted Charting & Analysis: Say goodbye to broken charts and the frustration of reapplying your technical analysis. Your trendlines, support/resistance levels, indicators, and setups will persist seamlessly across contract rollovers.
  • Effortless Watchlist Management: No more manual updates! Your watchlist will always display the relevant, active futures contract, saving you valuable time and effort.
  • Consistent Historical Data: Analyze market trends with greater ease. Continuous contracts provide a more unified and consistent historical data series, making long-term analysis more accurate and insightful.
  • Enhanced Trading Experience: Focus on what truly matters – identifying opportunities and executing your trades – without the distraction of administrative tasks related to contract expiry.
  • Reduced Risk of Errors: Eliminate the potential for missed trades or incorrect analysis due to using an expired contract or fumbling with manual rollovers.

GPT response ends here xD

:eye_in_speech_bubble: Here’s how you can access it

Simply use the symbol search on our TradingView platform. For example, you’ll now find options like “NIFTY FUT 1!” (NIFTY FUTURES (CURRENT CONTINUOUS)) and “NIFTY FUT 2!” (NIFTY FUTURES (NEXT CONTINUOUS)) for popular indices like Nifty. Similar continuous contract symbols will be available for other futures instruments.

We believe these continuous contracts will significantly improve your workflow and elevate your futures trading experience.

Happy Trading!

Ps: I’ve built this feature for myself first :stuck_out_tongue:

A few points of limitations and restrictions noted about the continuous Futures contracts availability.

  1. The continuous contracts apparently are available only for NSE futures and they are not available for commodities futures on MCX.

  1. Even for NSE Futures these continuous contracts are available only in ‘Symbol Search’ window on tv.upstox.com.

  2. They are not available inside the ‘Add Symbol’ window for the continuous contracts to be added to the watchlist. So, we cannot add them to our watchlist.
This means that if we need to analyze the continuous contracts, we are able to open the continuous contracts only directly through symbol search process and are not able to add them to our watchlist just like what we can in the original native ‘Tradingview Sofware’.

Since we cannot add the continuous contracts to our watchlists, even if the watchlists are syncing on all the available platforms, we do NOT get to see the continuous contracts on pro.upstox.com. So, we will always have to go to tv.upstox.com to see the continuous contracts.
So, I think the ‘Effortless watchlist management’ with ‘Set it and forget it’ luxury does not seem to be possible for now as the painstaking searching process for the continuous contract will still persist.

Another point to be noticed is that on tv.upstox.com we are able to place orders which are valid only for the day or IOC. We are not able to place the GTT (Bracket orders) on tv.upstox.com.
This means after analyzing the continuous charts on tv.upstox.com if we have to place the GTT orders, then we have to juggle between the two tabs of the browser having tv.upstox and the pro.upstox.
So, the improvement in the workflow and enhanced trading experience also doesn’t seem to be in near sight.

Is it possible for you guys to work on these limitations and remove such restrictions to be able to take full advantage of the continuous contracts availability?

  1. Is it really going to be possible to add the continuous contracts to the watchlists so they can be available on all the platforms that Upstox offers?
(For efficient watchlists management with set it and forget it attitude and not having to update the watchlist with newer contracts every month?)

  2. Is it possible to add the capability to submit the GTT orders from continuous futures charts from pro.upstox as well as tv.upstox.com also? (For enhanced trading experience?)

  3. Are you people going to make available the continuous futures charts for the MCX commodities as well any time in the future??

Thanks

Hi @Indian_Trader_007

  1. It should be able to be added in the watchlist. Let me check this.
  2. Yes, a custom order form on tv.upstox.com is in the works that would enable all order types
  3. MCX will be supported by early next month for continuous contracts

  1. Yes please communicate and work closely with the development team and enable this feature of adding the continuous contracts to the watchlists.
  2. Also make sure that the order placement should be possible directly from the continuous contracts charts.
    This will ensure
    A. The faster creation and efficient management of the watchlists.
    B. It will remove the hassles of updating the watchlist every month when the futures contracts get expired.
This will save a lot of time for your users.
